Piratemas

Given that our family is secular, not religious, I've always felt a little hypocritical celebrating Christmas, despite it's over-commercialisation.

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a parody religious movement formed solely to have a tongue in cheek dig at intelligent design. According to pastafarian beliefs, pirates are the divine beings - so this year, instead of celebrating Christmas, with all it's attendant trappings, we celebrated Piratemas.

Piratemas is a similar festival to the modern Christmas, involving the exchange of gifts and the consumption of chocolate coins (referred to as "booty"), though with the addition of pirate-themed decorations, rum-based cocktails, and yo-ho-ho's instead of ho-ho-ho's.
