Long Distance from Buy Olympia

Long Distance by Emily Ryan Lerner, from Buy Olympia - $14.95

"Three windows, two colors, two people.

Her. Him. And emptiness.."

What do you think? Emo but cool? Just emo? Whichever, it gives me saudades.

If you're feeling particularly manhosa, there's always Depression Dog (mildly NSFW).

TeeFury: High Above And Down Below

Today's TeeFury tee is from designer Tang Yau Hoong - who you may remember from my designer spotlight in December.

High Above And Down Below

You've just under 11 hours to snag this one for $9 before it's gone.

Robocop T-Shirt

Hopefully you all enjoyed Travis' Top 5 Terminator T-Shirts last week as much as I did (how cool was that hoodie?). Travis works for Found Item Clothing, a brand that loves 80s films so much, they recreate the t-shirts seen on screen for you to buy. They've just released a new one - and it's a slight departure from their normal modus operandi.

OCP Shirt - $21.95 from Found Item Clothing

While the OCP logo may never actually feature on a t-shirt in the movie Robocop, it appears just about everywhere else, as an omnipresent symbol of the corporate greed and corruption that propels the movie.

If there's a more appropriate video to close this post with, I couldn't find it.

Threadless Sale Extended

You now have until Monday, 30th March to grab what you can in the Threadless Spring Cleaning Sale.

Even more tees have been reduced to $5 and $10.

There's loads of stock in girls and boys sizes.

So don't hang around - get shopping!

Always Urban Sale

Always Urban got in touch back in February to let me know about a new publicity feature they were doing, a 'brand battle' which let you, the public, vote on which brands you'd like to see as part of their permanent roster. Well, it's too late to vote now, as Popsickl won that round, but it's not too late to take advantage of the sale that's on right now.

I'll be honest and say that apart from PopJunkie, I haven't heard of any of the brands they stock. But it's not about the brands, it's about the tees, right? Well, check these out:

My Main Man Twain by Spindustry - $26 $21

Literary types will enjoy being the centre of attention with this Mark Twain tee.

City Life by Lore Clothing - $28 $17

'Always Urban' live up to their promise with this belt-printed offering.

Day Dreamer Men's Thermal by Spray Graphic - $30.00 $23.00

"There are dark clouds on the horizon on this thermal by SprayGraphic. But don't sleep on the lightning bolt, it's electric!"

Wolf Pack Tee by Spindustry - $26.00 $18.00

What's more alpha than a wolf t-shirt? A pack of wolves t-shirt.

Faveur Design Contest Winner... And New Design Contest

No sooner have Faveur announced the winner of the Cory Crowder design competition (which we mentioned back in February), than they've announced another one!

The winner of the $300 prize is Craig Elyse (of Elyse Design) for the shirt below.

Time to sharpen your pencils graphics tablets again, as the band Fireflight is the subject of their next design competition. The same rules apply - if you design the best Fireflight t-shirt, you stand to win $250 cash, $50 store credit, and the prestige of having your design up for sale at Faveur. Check out the details here.

I Am Wellness

I Am Wellness is a clothing brand promoting "wellness", an alternative medicine term that means the opposite of illness. However, you would not say "I am illness", you would say "I am ill" - so why would they say "I am wellness"?
A survey of the brand's blog reveals references to the "Higher Mind" and "miracles", confirming my fears of their well-meaning but ultimately misguided attitude. In the next breath, they are quoting clinical studies on the efficacy of strength-based training on reducing heart disease. This curious mixture of science and hokum is typical of the alternative medicine fraternity, who blend information and misinformation to sucker the ill-informed with opinion dressed as fact.

As I've found out to my cost, there is a surprisingly fine line between the health-conscious, alternative medicine, new-age beliefs, and conspiracy theorists. Much of the crossover lies in the world of supplementation, in which herbs and extracts take on magical new powers in the eyes of the users (and dollar signs in the eyes of the manufacturers).

There is currently a massive controversy in the world of alternative medicine over the introduction of the Codex Alimentarius. While it may sound scary, it translates roughly as "food book", and is essentially a set of rules achieved by consensus of a worldwide panel of experts to ensure food safety through ensuring good codes of practice, and by setting standards for food hygiene and labelling.

The supplement industry is threatened by this (as their ingredients would be limited to safe, non-toxic levels, and they would not be able to make spurious claims about their benefits), and so a large-scale operation of misinformation is in place, making ridiculous claims about the purpose of the Codex, and it's intended effects. Most notable of the risible assertions is that it's orchestrated by the New World Order, who are attempting to achieve worldwide depopulation (to ~50,000) through malnutrition.

But in the end, it's the tees that matter, right? Well according to the t-shirt, "I Am Wellness is a choice, an affirmation, and a lifestyle".
I'm all for making positive choices. I can think of less grammatically incorrect affirmations. If the lifestyle is about staying healthy, I'm in! If it involves alternative medicine, I'll stick to science and skepticism, thanks.

5 Killer Terminator Tees

Thunderfrogs is brought to you today by the letters FIC, and the number 11.

With Watchmen having come and gone (to, it should be noted, much less fanfare than was deserved), excitable fan boys everywhere are turning their thoughts to the upcoming releases of the Star Trek reboot (May 8th), the Transformers sequel (July 3rd) and the first installment of what promises to be an epic Terminator trilogy set in a post-nuclear, post-Ahnold (?) apocalypse. Even though Terminator: Salvation won't hit screens for about 6 weeks (May 21), I thought now might be the ideal time to survey the marketplace for relevant shirts.

Some simple Google-sleuthing has yielded a wealth of options, but I've whittled my suggestions down to 5 intriguing designs, all widely available from an assortment of online vendors.

1. 80's Tees is selling this fantastic shirt which directly invokes a classic scene in the very first film when Arnold's T-800 model coldly robs and kills an unsuspecting arms dealer. Effing hilarious, I say.

2. This top from Snorg Tees has made the rounds on various tee blogs in the past, but I really, really, really like the clever, if simple and childish, wordplay riffing on what is arguably Schwarzenegger's signature one-liner.

3. As most Terminator devo-tees (pun intented, yo) are aware, the character of John Connor — the leader of the future resistance movement — will be portrayed in the newest film by the Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale. The actor made headlines recently with an embarrasing on-set rant in which he chewed out the lighting director. A tape of the exchange was subsequently leaked online, thereby becoming fodder for culture jammers, remixers and satirists of all sorts. Naturally enough, it didn't take long for an entrepreneurial t-shirt company to cash in on the moment. To wit, peep out this shirt from Despair.com.

4. I'm fairly conflicted about the fourth entry on this list, which I discovered on eBay. I can't imagine I would ever wear this, and yet, I'm awestruck at its creepy and faux-metallic construction of the Terminator chassis, which conveniently puts a reverse spin on a campy and quite memorable line from the second film: "I'm a cybernetic organism — living tissue over a metal endoskeleton."

5. The last tee on our index comes, like the first, from 80's Tees. And, similar to number two, it puns on the same snippet of distinguished and much-copied dialogue. Terminator-fatigue, anyone?

If you haven't seen it, watch the trailer for the new film below.

I'd like to thank Andy for giving me the chance to guest blog here on his site. With any luck, I'll make recurring appearances in this space every so often...

Co-Tee TV

Coty Gonzales, the first tee blogger to review t-shirts by the medium of video, has rebranded his popular podcasts, and made them available to download at iTunes! Now there's no excuse to miss the Co-Tee TV show, as you now have the choice of several delivery methods - including iTunes, Vimeo, and YouTube. You can read more about Coty's announcement here.

Coty's "go the extra mile" attitude has been an inspiration to me recently, and prompted me to raise my own game a little - resulting in the interviews and guest posting I've done recently. Coty also contributes regularly to Tee-Junction - where I've just become a contributor as well, yesterday publishing my Top 11 Dinosaur T-Shirts, with more posts in the pipeline.
I've also been guest blogging at Pop Culture Tees, where Liz was nice enough to publish my interview with Darren from Regal Clothing, as well as my Top 11 Space Invaders Tees, and there should be more to come there too I hope!

So if you want to make sure you don't miss out on any future content from me or Coty, make sure you're following Coty Gonzales, Pop Culture Tees, and Tee-Junction in your RSS reader.

Ten Bills Spring Cleaning Sale

"We're doing some Spring Cleaning at TenBills.com and need to make more space for some new tees coming in. We're selling all our older version tees for only $5 each to make room for a bunch of new tees and some reprints- we know your excited about that!"
"Oh hey, we almost forgot. We're giving away a free t-shirt everyday to one of our OFFL (online friends for life)."
Again, the problem is that almost all of these $5 tees are sold out. Here's one you can get - if you're a size small.

Spam

I happened to bump into an old friend today on the street, and he happened to be wearing a very cool, limited edition t-shirt I thought I'd share with you.

One of only fifty made, this is a full-colour, high-quality print, with relevant local detail. The eagle-eyed among you will be able to deduce my location from this image; the resourceful should be able to get it down to about fifty yards.
